Local Author Promotes Abuse Awareness During Sunny 95's 20 Outstanding Women Event
Named an Ambassador of Hope by Oprah Winfrey, Scott brings message of survival to community.

WORTHINGTON, OH, January 27, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marala Scott, author of "In Our House: Perception vs. Reality," recognized by local radio station Sunny 95 as one of their "20 Outstanding Women to Know," is taking her inspiring message of abuse, survival, hope and forgiveness to the Columbus community during Sunny 95's free "20 Outstanding Women to Know" event held on January 29, 2010 at the Hilton Columbus at Polaris, 8700 Lyra Drive from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

"I wrote the book to help others," Scott said. "My story is raw and jarring, but it is a catalyst I use to get the conversation about domestic violence started. Abuse and violence have a horrific effect on people no matter their race, age, gender or socioeconomic background and I'll use every opportunity to get my story out there along with the "Indicators of an Abuser" we've developed, so we can help change and save lives. The Sunny 95 event is a great honor and an even greater opportunity to make an impact."

The event will provide an opportunity for attendees to interact with all 2010 recipients and will offer a variety of fun activities including makeovers, massages, fashion, jewelry and home furnishing displays. More information available at Sunny 95's Web site www.Sunny95.com.

About Marala Scott

A survivor of child abuse, Marala Scott works to help people better understand the destruction and long-lasting effects of domestic violence and child abuse. Through her book "In Our House" and her mission to "HEAL" - Help, Educate, and Alter Lives, Scott inspires children and adults to overcome the effects of abuse. She takes her message of domestic violence and child abuse prevention to audiences across the nation through various speaking engagements and events.

A two-time award winning author on the subject, her work has caught the attention of Oprah Winfrey, who saluted her as an Angel Care Network Ambassador of Hope: Oprah.com/spirit/Ambassadors-ofHope-Oprahs-Angel-Network/6, and has inspired others to speak out and serve as role models - including a team of men. Scott developed the "Indicators of an Abuser," a checklist on the behaviors and tactics abusers use to control their victims to help others recognize the dangers early in a relationship.

"In Our House: Perception vs. Reality" by Marala Scott and Tre Parker is a chilling true story of a successful family that reveals the hidden reality behind appearances. Colin is a brilliant, handsome, and charming man to the outside world, recruited by both the CIA and IBM. In reality life was a hellish nightmare of verbal and atrocious physical abuse for Alley, his beautiful wife, and their six children. Then, three mysterious women visit her and promise he will never hurt them again - if she gives them what they want. For the sake of the children, she agrees. The women work their evil and Alley gains immense power against Colin, but finds herself demonically possessed.
